Bwindi impenetrable national park is located in south western Uganda in Kanungu district on the edge of the rift valley. Bwindi national park has an altitude of 1,160m to 2,607m above sea level and is known as the park that harbors half of the world’s mountain gorillas. Bwindi impenetrable forest national park is also a home of 120 mammal species including the primates such as the famous mountain gorillas, baboons, monkeys, 350 bird species with 23 endemic to the Albertine Rift. Bwindi impenetrable forest national park harbors 18 habituated gorilla families which are found in the four sectors of the park that is Buhoma, Nkuringo, Ruhija and Rushaga sector. Gorilla habituation process in Bwindi national park takes place in the Rushaga sector.  

How to get to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

Bwindi impenetrable forest national park can be reached by road and air transport means. By road, you will drive from Kampala via Masaka, Mbarara, Kabale and then to the park headquarters in one of the sectors. Bwindi can also be reached from Queen Elizabeth national park through the Ishasha sector or by public means where you can board a public bus from Kampala to kabala and then hire a private vehicle to the park and the journey takes about 9 to 10 hours drive. 

By air transport means, you can book scheduled or chartered flights where you will fly from Entebbe international airport or Kajjansi airfield to Kihihi airstrip, Kisoro airstrip or Kayonza airstrip near Buhoma sector and then connect by road to the park headquarters.

Dry season

The dry season in Bwindi national park is during the months of June to August and December to February. Rainy season

Bwindi impenetrable forest national park is covered with dense tropical rain forest and montane forest and therefore has a tropical climate with average temperatures ranging from a minimum of 7 to 20 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 20 to 27 degrees Celsius and receives an average rainfall of up to 2390mm each year.  During the dry season Bwindi impenetrable forest’s climate gets hot during the day with temperatures of about 30 degrees Celsius and in the morning it gets so cold with mist and fog covering the forest and the temperatures drop to about 9 degrees Celsius.
