Chimpanzee trekking and lion tracking are some of the most sought-after safari activities in Uganda. Chimpanzee trekking in done in forests as lion tracking is done in the savannah game parks.
Chimpanzee trekking is when you go into the rain forest to look for the very exciting chimpanzees to find them and spend an hour with them, observing them and just enjoying their company. This trekking experience is done in Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic republic of congo. It takes about 4 to 6 hours in their habitats. the parks that have chimpanzees in these countries are nyungwe national park in Rwanda, virunga national park in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kibaale National park, budongo forest, kyambura gorge and others in Uganda.
lion tracking is done in Queen Elizabeth national park where they are tree climbing lions. this is because tree climbing lions are the only lions that are currently tracked in the region.
So that said, what is the difference between chimpanzee trekking and lion tracking.
In chimpanzee trekking; the animals at the center are the primates the chimpanzees well as in lion tracking the animals at the center are the tree climbing lions.
Chimpanzee trekking is done in the forests because that’s where the chimpanzees stay and live; lion tracking on the other hand is done in the savannah parks because that’s where the lions live.
in chimpanzee trekking you are able to stand in close proximity with the chimpanzees; but in lion tracking you quite a distance from the lions and enclosed in a Uganda safari car.
the rules of chimpanzee trekking include but not limited to a 7 m distance between you and the chimpanzees, not touching the chimps, not feeding the chimps, not trekking while you sick, not drinking or eating in front of the chimpanzees, among other things.
In lion tracking, the rules are basically start in your car where you are observing the lions from. the lions are not friendly like the chimpanzees so you cannot stand in close proxy with them. Besides they are carnivorous animals so if you come close to them, they will eat you alive.
The prices of chimpanzee trekking range from 100 usd to 200 usd depending on where you are trekking from. the price of lion tracking is 100 usd and its only done in Queen Elizabeth national park.
when you go for chimpanzee trekking the other activities you can do in the chimpanzee park include but not limited to nature walks, bird watching, forest hikes and community walks. On a lion tracking experience the other activities you do are viewing other animals on the game drive, boat rides on the kazinga channel, bird watching and a few other activities that are offered by the park.
To find the chimpanzees on your trekking experience, you follow their marks on the trails, basically there rangers who follow their track and inform you where the chimpanzees are at a particular moment. For the lions you use a tracker that has been embodied in them and the guide operates the receiver.
Chimpanzee trekking as stated earlier will take about 4 to 6 hours, but lion tracking will take about 2 to 3 hours and then you are done.
well as chimpanzee trekking is more involving, you have to trek yourself and walk, for lion tracking, you just stay in your car and view from the comfort of your car.
