East African Tourist VISA is an important requirement for travelers/Tourist that would love to travel across the East African Region to specifically tour. East Africa as a region gifted with a lot of mesmerizing features which are prominent and iconic from culture, physical features, wildlife or man features attract a large number of tourists on various safari activities. Originally East African region under East African community as an integration made of Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, South Sudan and Rwanda. East African region has magnificent universal famous attractions like the River Nile which is the Longest River in Africa, Lake Victoria one of Africa’s largest lakes and world’s largest tropical lake which is shared by Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya, mountain Rwenzori which is the second-highest mountain in Africa. East Africa has numerous national Parks which shelter a variety of animals such as the endangered mountain gorilla in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga national park of Uganda and Volcanoes National Park of Rwanda, a variety of wildlife in the most renown parks including Kidepo national park in Uganda, Maasai Mara National Park in Kenya and Serengeti national park in Tanzania and many other national parks.
As an outcome of a joint initiative amongst the heads of states of the Republic of Uganda, Republic of Kenya, the Republic of Rwanda with an intention of boosting regional travel and create opportunities for tourists. They agreed and introduced the East African tourist VISA. The East African tourist VISA allows visitors to stay and cross into the 3 countries of Uganda, Rwanda, and Kenya for over 90 days using that same Visa without paying extra fees including entry border fees.
The East African tourist VISA costs USD 100 and is processed either in advance before arrival or can be processed on arrival at any of the 3 countries’ airports especially for Kenya and Rwanda, however, Uganda strongly recommends E-Visa application before arrival. While you are purchasing/processing the East African tourist VISA, there are requirements and rules which are be fulfilled and followed for a successful application including;
- A valid passport with at least two empty pages and 6 months before expiry
- Visa fees of USD 100
- Have a copy of your itinerary/Letter from your host.
- Visa application is per individual even for travel groups
- It has a validity of 90 days at a single fee of 100$
- Not allowed to use the East African tourist Visa as a work permit.
- There are no restrictions for applying for a Visa basing on a country of origin.
The East African Visa is provided to you upon arrival in the country you are visiting first at the official points of entry including Entebbe International airport for Uganda, Kigali international airport for Rwanda and Jomo Kenyatta International airport and Port Mombasa for Kenya. They are also processed manually at any diplomatic representative/ immigration offices at the border points of the country you first enter with a confirmation of your visit. Visas can also be accessed from the Embassy offices in the traveler’s country of origin. While applying for this kind of visa it is safe to know that there is no extension of the visa granted.
