Gorilla trekking permits in Uganda and Rwanda should be booked 3 to 6 months in advance before the trekking date because they are competitive and usually get sold out especially during the peak season.
Which company to use for your gorilla trekking safari?
There are many companies in Uganda and Rwanda that organize gorilla trekking safaris therefore when choosing a safari company you should consider factors like if its registered with tourism associations in Uganda or Rwanda, check the profile, address, services offered, read information on the website, way of communication such as how fast they communicate to your questions, gorilla trekking safari prices charged, company reviews from previous visitors, mode of payment among others. Considering all the above qualities there are some tour companies that I recommend such as Achieve Global Safaris, Explore Rwanda Tours and Focus East Africa Tours Ltd.
When to go for gorilla trekking safari in Uganda and Rwanda
Gorilla trekking in Uganda and Rwanda can be done anytime throughout the year though the best time is during the dry season in the months of June to September and December to February. During this time there is less rainfall in the park therefore access roads to the parks will be passable, there will be short shrubs in the jungle which gives you clear views of the mountain gorillas and the gorilla trekking trails will be passable. Due to the fact that gorilla destinations are tropical rain forests it can rain anytime of the day regardless of the season.
Gorilla trekking can also be done in the wet season in the months of March to May and October to November. During the wet season there is heavy rainfall in the forest which makes gorilla trekking trails wet, muddy and slippery hence making trekking difficult. Though there during the wet season there is heavy rainfall it has some advantages in that the gorilla trekking permits will be less competitive due to less visitors therefore even the last minute visitors can purchase a permit.
