Katara lodge is located on the Great rift valley escarpment with uninterrupted views of the savannah, Lake Edward, and the Virunga and Rwenzori mountain ranges beyond. More so, the lodge lies about 16kilomters from the Katunguru gate of the Queen Elizabeth National Park, which is Uganda’s ideal safari destination and one of the most biodiverse reserves in the world.
Queen Elizabeth National Park’s variety of wildlife species is habitants of open savannah, dense papyrus swamps, crater lakes, the extensive Maramangambo Forest, and the forested Kyambura Gorge. The park is home to over 95 mammal species and over 600 bird species to be spotted.
The Katara lodge is an ideal base from which to have a gainful view of the park and a variety of amazing activities offered like; Game drives, bird watching, stunning boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, Chimpanzee tracking in the Kyambura Gorge and forest walks in the Kalinzu. They all provide great memorable wildlife experiences.
The lodge offers the precious nature of the park and the flora and fauna species. Therefore, through offering a luxury Uganda safari experience while minimizing any impact on the environment.
The materials used to build the lodge were all gathered locally from renewable sources. The lodge uses extensive rainwater to water harvest in, heat all our water while using a solar water heater, and use ultra-low flush toilets throughout the lodge.
Room and Suites –Katara in Queen Elizabeth National park
Katara lodge offers accommodation in eight luxurious thatched cottages on a beautiful stretch of hills overlooking the open savannah in a serene and relaxing atmosphere. Each beautiful cottage was hand-crafted using locally available material and carved into the hillside by the Katara village community.
The cottages were furnished with wooden floors, grass-thatched roofs, and canvas that can be folded away for gainful views of the park stretching out below. They provide heated water using solar thermal energy. The lodge is comprised of regular cottages and family cottages.
The regular cottages
The regular cottages offer one large open sleeping and sitting area, with a perfect double bed and a four-poster star bed that can be wheeled out onto the veranda to sleep directly under the shift African sky.
They have bathrooms that are romantic roll-top baths or invigorating rain showers. They also provide an excellent way to unwind after a fantastic day on Uganda safari.
The family cottages
The family cottages were designed with two separate bedrooms but shared a sitting area and bathroom. It was furnished with a double bed in one bedroom and two beds. Other bedrooms accommodate up to three small children. To add on, the family cottages come with a small private outside sitting area with a swing couch and two hammocks thus enjoying a quiet unforgettable experience on the African continent.

Queen Elizabeth national park is located in the southwestern Uganda region approximately a 5 to 6 hours’ drive.
