Take on the Pearl of Africa

“Take on the pearl of Africa” is a digital led domestic tourism campaign that was is run by the Uganda Tourism Board. The Uganda Tourism Board is using this campaign as way of boasting the local tourism in Uganda as the Country restarts Tourism after several months of the COVID19 Lockdown.

Take on the Pearl of Africa

“Take on the Pearl of Africa” was launched virtually on Uganda Tourism Board’s Facebook page on the 8th of September 2020 and it’s at that launch that the board announced the vision and plans for the campaign.

Uganda Tourism Board said in its launch statement that between September and November, it will give different persons who are enthusiastic about Tourism especially Ugandan Tourism several opportunities to visit different tourism sites in Uganda

This campaign is focusing on reviving the country’s tourism sector through the promotion of domestic tourism and it’s hoped as Ugandans see the touring of the different tourism sites across the country, they will also be encouraged to make trips to these different parts of the country.

Tourism enthusiasts who wish to take on this opportunity will be required to participate in a weekly challenge online that will be to identify the place on the picture Uganda Tourism Board would have posted on their online platforms.

The picture will be posted on facebook, twitter and instagram, however answers will be received on twitter and the winners are being announced on Tuesdays on all the three platforms. The winners are also called on zoom by either a Uganda tourism board representative or a celebrity part of the campaign to give them the good news of winning.

All participants that are urged to be super attentive to the different twists and turns of the challenge for their participation to be valid and for a chance to win one of the trips among the 8 trips that will run in this campaign.

This campaign expected to have a total of 16 winners taking part in 8 trips with two people selected as winners every Tuesday.

When the unique tourism picture is posted by Uganda Tourism Board on Visit Uganda online platforms on Friday, individuals will be given a chance to respond with name of the place and give reasons why they want or deserve the chance to win a trip to that particular tourism site.

Furthermore individuals will get their friends and family to like and comment on their answers and the comment with highest likes by Tuesday of the following week is automatically selected as the week’s winner.

Winners will be announced on Tuesday and they will have their trips on the weekend, thus Friday through Sunday.

At the time of writing this article the “Take on pearl of Africa” campaign had already started and still under way. The first winner of the campaign was Dominic Tumuge, who won a trip to eastern Ugandan for the weekend after identifying a picture of the sipi falls in eastern Uganda.

Dominic followed all the instructions and guidelines of identifying the unique picture that was posted on the Uganda tourism board social media platforms and successfully identified it as the magnificent Sipi Falls in Eastern Uganda,

The way the campaign works is that the winner tours the tourism sites in the part of the country the picture he/she identified is from; so Dominic got a chance to tour the Eastern part of Uganda going through the several tourism sites in Eastern Uganda that include Jinja city, Sipi falls and Chebet falls in Kapchorwa, Mt Elgon ranges, Mbale city and many other sites.

On this trip to Eastern Uganda, Dominic was accompanied by several people from the Uganda tourism Board and different Ugandan celebrities that included:- Natasha Sinayobye a renowned model, Cleo Patra Koheirwe a celebrated Actress and Radio personality, and Alex Muhangi one of the top comedians in Uganda from and Comedy Store Uganda.
