Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park and Mgahinga gorilla national park starts in the morning with a briefing at the park headquarters where after you will be allocated a habituated gorilla family to trek and then start trekking in the jungle with an experienced park guide. Trekking of the mountain gorillas takes about 30 minutes to 7 hours depending on where the gorillas are located because they like to move from one place to another in search of food. During trekking you will be able to view other wildlife species including birds, primates, plant species among others and once the gorilla families are located you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat which gives you an opportunity to observe their habits, behaviors, lifestyle, watch them feed, breastfeed, groom young ones, take photos and record the breathtaking moments.

Gorilla trekking permits are legal documents that are offered to any visitor above the age of 15 years allowing him or her to visit a habituated gorilla family in either Bwindi impenetrable national park or Mgahinga gorilla national park. Gorilla trekking permits in Uganda are issued by Uganda Wildlife Authority a government body that is in charge of wildlife conservation and they costs USD 700 per person for Foreign non residents, USD 600 per person for foreign residents and UGX 250,000 per person for east African citizens. The gorilla trekking permit allows visitors to spend one hour in the presence of the mountain gorillas and it’s valid for one day.
How to acquire gorilla trekking permits in Uganda
Gorilla trekking permits in Uganda can either be acquired directly through Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) by contacting their offices through email or telephone calls.
