Gorilla Trekking Uganda

Mountain gorillas are the most sought species in Uganda. They are found in Bwindi Impenetrable and Mgahinga National park. Bwindi boosts with 22 habituation gorilla families open to visitors. There are 80 gorilla permits available to travelers on daily basis in Uganda Gorilla Tours. The only possible way to trek these unique species, you need to buy a valid permit from ‘’UWA’’ Uganda Wildlife Authority and that purchased permits allows you to only visit the assigned in gorilla families. The activity can take 30 to 7 hours depending on their movements but when they are accessed one hour is given to you to watch these rare species in their inhabitants.

Other places to do gorilla trekking are Rwanda’s Volcanoes nations park and Virunga national park in Democratic Republic of Congo ‘’DRC’’.

Chimpanzee Tracking in Uganda

In Uganda there are total number of over 5000 individuals located in Uganda. Kibale National park has got the highest concentration of chimpanzee species and ranks over 13 primates species and over 1,500 individuals of chimpanzees. This activity can be done all year round though best done in dry months. In Uganda chimpanzees can be trekked in different places such as Kibale Forest National Park, Semliki National Park, Kyambura gorge in Queen Elizabeth national park and in Budongo Forest in Murchison Falls National Park, Ngamba Sanctuary Island a homo to orphaned primates open for tourism purposes.

Golden Monkey Tracking in Uganda

Golden monkeys are unique creatures which are relatives to both the endangered mountain gorilla and the chimpanzees.  They are only found in countries like Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo.

Other primates –monkey species in Uganda

Baboons Species

These Olive baboons live in large groups of about 150 individual varying of few male individuals, many females and young ones. They are large enough to be viewed by visitors that visits Uganda National Parks in inhabits these primates. In Uganda ,these species can be viewed in three main national parks namely; Mgahinga National Park, Mount Elgon national park and Rwenzori National Park and entire world can be found in over 25 countries. Black and White Colobus Monkeys

These are genus colobus family and mainly live in Africa and are inhabitant of Riverine forests, wooded grasslands and forest. Their groups are comprised of nine individuals in number including a single male, female and their young ones They are black in color with a white face and tail which can be viewed in Entebbe botanical gardens and in many national parks of Uganda. Blue Monkeys

They mainly live in montane, bamboo forest, ever green forests and also in forest canopy. They prefer humid and shady places with plenty of water and mainly feed on leaves, invertebrates and fruits, Uganda Primate Watching Tours.

Blue monkeys are composed of 4 to 12 individuals and mainly consists of one male and many females with their young ones. Blue monkeys have a gestation period of 5 months with females and give birth every after two years. They can be spotted in countries like Congo, Angola, Zambia and Uganda. In Uganda can be viewed from Murchison Falls national park and Lake Mburo national park.

De Brazza’s Monkeys

These species are mostly found in Central Africa and widely spread in the forests of Africa. They are swampy monkeys, with grey fur and reddish brown back with black tail and limbs.  They are inhabitant of swampy, dry mountain areas, bamboo areas and located in countries including Cameroon, Uganda, Congo, Angola, Ethiopia, Kenya and South Sudan.

 They have a life span of 22 years and live in small social groups of 5 to 30 individuals which are led by a male species who provides protection to the family members.

They like communicating through shaking tree branches, making booming sounds and nodding. Here in Uganda can be spotted in Mount Elgon National Park and Semliki National Park.

Grey Cheeked Mangabey Monkey

The grey cheeked Mangabey monkey are grey and black in color. They live in moderate and low altitude   rain forests. In Uganda can be found in Kibale National Park and Semuliki National Park

L’Hoest Monkeys

They are referred to as mountain monkeys and most of them found in Uganda and in the Congo basin. L’Hoest monkeys live in mountainous areas and composed of small group.

The adult male monkey weighs 6 kilograms and the females weigh 3.5kilogrames.

They undergo gestation period of 5 months and females give bird to one young one.

They are herbivores which feed on fruits, mush rooms, and roofs, eggs.

Patas Monkeys                               

They are mainly found in semi-arid area in west Africa and considered to have a close look to the Vervet Monkeys species. They always live in a group of 60 individuals with one adult male and many females.

They feed on insects, seeds, gum, tubers as well as smaller primates. Mostly found in Murchison Falls national park, Pian Upe Wildlife reserve and Kidepo Valley National.

Red Colobus Monkeys

They are closely related to species to the black and white colobus, found in western, eastern and central Africa.  Red Colobus monkeys live in wide groups of about 80 individuals and females are the most seen species.

There diet consists of flowers, young leaves and fruits.
