Wild Animals you expect to see in Uganda : The number of wild animals found in Uganda is impressive to travelers that visit the Pearl of Africa the country’s diverse vegetation is home to the famous mountain gorillas and chimpanzees and of course plus the big five the lions, leopards, Rhinos, buffaloes and elephants.

Though these are the most talked about animals, they are not the only ones that travellers marvel at when they visit Uganda. Uganda has over 500 animal species living in the wild in any of the 10 parks that include:- Kidepo National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Murchison Falls National Park, Kibaale National Park, Mgahinga National Park, Bwindi National Park, Lake Mburo National Park.
When you visit any of the parks mentioned above you will certain see:-
Mountain gorillas:- the largest primate in the world, and the rarest one to find. Uganda is blessed to have the highest population of these gorillas living in the southwestern part of the country. You can find them in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
Chimpanzees:- come just next to gorillas, you can actually mistake one for the other but they are different, you can find the chimpanzees in Kibale Forest National, Budongo and Kanyiyo Pabidi forests, Kibale Forest National, and the Kyambura Gorge in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Lions: – the kings of the jungle. These are the most feared animals and they prey on almost all the other animals including elephants and buffaloes but they mainly prey on zebras, antelopes, giraffes etc. They are found in Murchison Falls, Kidepo Valley National Park, and in Queen Elizabeth National Park which also has the tree climbing lions in Ishasha.
Leopard, these are the most elusive animals in the wild, they live mainly in wooded or rocky habitats and can be found in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Hyenas, though most people don’t know this, Uganda has hyenas. They are bulky with a sloping back, dark brown spots. They are in Queen Elizabeth National Park and a few others apart from Kidepo National Park
Cheetah are very rarely seen and is heavily spotted with a greyhound-like build and distinctive black tear-marks they are similar to leopards in appearance but the Leopard can be differentiated from their rosette-shaped spots cheetahs are only found in Kidepo National Park.
Rhinoceros;- Uganda’s rhinos are found in Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and for now, the country has only white rhinos, the black rhinos were extinct.

Giraffe, specifically Rothschild’s giraffe, the world’s tallest land mammal, you will find giraffes in Murchison Falls National Park, Lake Mburo, and Kidepo Valley national park, Wild Animals you expect to see in Uganda
Buffalo, is one of the most fierce animals no wonder it’s among the big five Animals, they kill easily by trampling on other animals, they live in herds in the forests you can spot them in almost all national parks.
Elephant, largest land mammal, it also lives in herds like the lion and can be found in almost all National parks in Uganda except a few.
Other animals include Uganda kob, Antelopes, Elands, Greater Kudu, Hartebeest, Oryx, waterbuck, Impala, gazelle, Warthog, bushbuck, Oribi, Bushpig, golden monkey Vervet monkey, Baboons and many more
