Detailed Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe forest national park

Transfer to Nyungwe forest national park: On day 1 of 5 days Nyungwe forest safari and Mount Nyiragongo hike, you will set off from your pick up location in Kigali where our company representative will arrive in in time and start a drive to Cpanel@Uganda@Safaristhat is famously known for harboring 13 primate species and the most fascinating canopy walk. The road drive is a bit long but so rewarding with lots of attractions for sighting including coffee plantations, local communities in their farms , stunning view of Mount Nyiragongo and the rolling hills of Rwanda all making your drive so rewarding. Enjoy an enroute lunch and as soon as you get to the park, head to the lodge for check in, dinner and overnight sleep.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and Canopy walk in Nyungwe forest national park

Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe forest national park: Arise for breakfast early in the morning on day 2 of 5 days Nyungwe forest safari and Mount Nyiragongo hike, pack enough water for drinking and some snacks then meet your safari driver for a transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing before penetrating the forest to trek chimpanzees. During chimpanzee trekking, you have an opportunity of spotting other primates since the park harbors 13 species of primates and other small mammals without forgetting several species of birds, butterflies and the thrilling vegetation cover. The entire trek lasts between 2-4 hours but once you find these chimpanzees, you will be allowed one hour in their presence, interacting with them closely and learning more about their behaviors. Return to the lodge in time for lunch.

Canopy walk in Nyungwe forest national park: As soon as you’re done with lunch, you will be led back into the forest for an afternoon canopy walk that starts from Uwinka and stretched to about 150 meters long and 50 meters high above the ground estimated to be the height of the tree. During the canopy walk, you will spot more wildlife species including those seen during chimpanzee trekking such as other primates, mammals, birds, butterflies and stunning flora species of the forest. You will also be able to view the entire Nyungwe forest national park from above and all that thrill with in. later in the evening, you will be returned to the lodge for dinner and overnight rest.

Day 3: Transfer to Gisenyi for overnight

Transfer to Gisenyi: Enjoy a relaxed breakfast at your lodge on day 3 of 5 days Nyungwe forest safari and Mount Nyiragongo hike, check out of the lodge and start a drive to Gisenyi where you will arrive in time for lunch, check in your lodge to have lunch and spend the remaining hours of the day at the beach on leisure. While at the beach there are several activities to engage in such as a boat cruise on Lake Kivu, walking safari, sports and many more that will make your afternoon colorful. Head to your lodge later on for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Drive to Goma and Hike mount Nyiragongo (Ascend) in Virunga national park

Nyiragongo hiking safari (Ascend): On day 4 of 5 days Nyungwe forest safari and Mount Nyiragongo hike, you need to wake up as early as possible for breakfast, pack enough drinking water and a lunch box and meet your safari driver by 5: 30am to be driven from Gisenyi to Goma via Grande Barrier border point where you will be cleared at the tourism office and later on join the convoy to be driven direct to Kibati ranger post to join other hikers in time for a briefing. After briefing, the real hike starts at exactly 10:30am where the hiker are guarded by armed rangers to climb up mount Nyiragongo. Ascending like any other climbing adventure is abit tiresome and straining but as soon as you get to the top, you will forget about the tiredness and instead enjoy the stunning view of a boiling lava lake that at the summit of Nyiragongo and other neighboring volcanoes that are seen while at the summit. You will spend an overnight at the summit overlooking Goma city and the lava lake that grows brighter especially if it rains in the night enabling you to capture breath taking memories that will last for a life time.

Day 5: Descend Mount Nyiragongo and return to Kigali for city tour and departures

Nyiragongo Hike (Descend) and drive to Kigali for city tour and departures: Arise at the summit of Nyiragongo on day 5 of 5 days Nyungwe forest safari and Mount Nyiragongo hike and meet other hikers, rangers and porters to start descent back to Kibati where you will be picked and driven back to Kigali with an enroute lunch. As soon as you get to Kigali, have a city tour and be dropped off at your designated drop-off location in Kigali Rwanda.
