6 Days Nyiragongo Hike and Kahuzi Biega
this 6 days nyiragongo hike and kahuzi biega safari sees you hiking the few active volcanoes and later descending and heading to Kahuzi biega to track the lowland gorillas.
Day 1: Transfer to Gisenyi/Goma
Upon arrival at Kigali airport/Depending on your location in Kigali, you will be met by our company representative/driver guide for your 3-4 hours’ to Goma with en route lunch. Cross to Goma and connect to your lodge for relaxation. Dinner and overnight stay at Ihusi hotel/Lake Kivu Serena hotel
Day 2: Nyiragongo hike
After breakfast at your hotel, drive to Kibati for about 15kms for briefing about the hike by 8 am. With your trekking gears, depart to start the hike, this is a full day hike, spending a night at the peak with great views of the boiling lava, as the experience is more effective in the night. Camp at the top of the volcano
Day 3: Descend Nyiragongo and return to your lodge to relax
After having a cup of tea, start descending the volcano to report back at Kibati before you meet with your driver guide to return to your hotel, relax and spend the rest of your day at leisure at your hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at Ihusi hotel.
Day 4: Transfer to Bukavu
Wake up early and be transferred to the starting point for the boat transfer to Bukavu. The boat in Goma sets off to Bukavu at 8 am, it takes about 7 hours on transit with provided meals. Your driver will also set off driving from Gisenyi to Bukavu about 4-5 hours’ drive crossing to Congo via Kyangugu/Bukavu border. Upon arrival at the landing site, you will find your driver waiting to transfer you to your hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at Orchids hotel
Day 5: Lowland gorillas trek
After breakfast at the lodge, drive to the park headquarters for briefing about the lowland gorillas. Thereafter with your packed food and water, depart to enter the park to start the search of the lowland gorillas, this can take 3-5 hours depending on the location of the gorillas. After finding and viewing the gorillas for 1 hour, walk back to meet your driver. You can either return to your hotel in Congo or drive to cross back to Rwanda and stay close to Nyungwe national park. Dinner and overnight stay at Orchids hotel as above or Nyungwe Top view hotel
Day 6: Canopy walk and drive back to Kigali
After breakfast at your lodge, en route drive for a canopy walk in Nyungwe forest which offers clear view of the park with its primates, birds, butterflies. Proceed to Butare for lunch as you proceed to Kigali city. You will either be dropped off at your hotel in Kigali or proceed to Kigali. End of tour
