Thereafter, you will connect to Africa’s best – Masai mara national reserve in Kenya which borders Serengeti national park in Tanzania, these 2 parks have been ranked as the best destinations in Africa because of their annual wildebeest migration experience that happens from June, July, August, September and October.
They are also home to the Big 5 game, the wild cats such as the cheetah, leopards and lions. Masai Mara is best visited in June, July and August for the wildebeest migration, however, other animals like the big 5 are available throughout the year.
While Serengeti national park in Tanzania is best visited in July, August, September and October for the wildebeest migration experience. Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Airport pick up and transfer to Hotel
Upon arrival at Kigali airport, your driver will be there waiting to welcome you and transfer you to your booked hotel in Kigali city. City tour in Kigali will depend on your time of arrival. Check-in for relaxation and overnight stay at Step Town Motel for budget/Des Mille Collins Hotel for mid-range/Kigali Serena Hotel for luxury.

Day 2: Transfer to transfer to Nyungwe forest national park
After breakfast, you will meet your safari guide who will also be your safari driver to transfer to Bukavu. It’s about 6-7 hours’ drive through the Nyungwe forest national park with amazing views of the rolling hill with stopovers for lunch and refreshments. Proceed to check-in your booked lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay at Nyungwe Top View Hill Hotel for mid-range option/Gisakura Visitors Centre for budget option
Day 3: Canopy walkway – Transfer to Volcanoes national park
After breakfast, connect for a canopy walk experience. You will go on a walking trail that will take you to the Canopy Walk-a swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees; you will be able to see the amazing rainforest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife moving below you.
Thereafter, embark on your journey to Volcanoes national park with en-route stop for a boat trip on Lake Kivu and en-route lunch. Proceed to Musanze and connect to check-in at your lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay at Hotel Muhabura for budget option/Da Vinci Gorilla lodge for mid-range option
Day 4: Golden Monkey tracking – transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable national park
After early morning breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for briefing from the park warden about the endangered golden monkeys. After connect to the tracking starting point and enter the forest to search for the rare golden monkey. This activity can take about 1-5 hours and is done at closer view of the other primates in the park like the red tailed monkeys, Vervet monkeys among other. After viewing the rare golden monkeys for an hour while taking pictures and studying their behaviours.
After trekking, set off to cross to Uganda with en-route lunch. It’s about 4-5 hours’ drive to connect to Bwindi Impenetrable national park. Upon arrival, check-in, have lunch and spend your afternoon on a Batwa community experience the return to the lodge to relax, dinner and overnight stay at Buhoma Haven lodge for mid-range/Buhoma Community Rest Camp for budget
Day 5: Gorilla trekking experience
Have breakfast and transfer you to park offices for briefing about Mountain Gorilla trekking by a local guide. The time taken is usually between 2-8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. Meeting the gorillas unexpectedly is one of the most captivating lifetime experiences. You will have a chance to observe and take pictures at very close range. You will observe adults feeding and groaning among themselves. After an hour with the long-awaited gorillas, your guide and rangers will lead you back to the starting point where your driver will readily be waiting to transfer you back to the lodge for a restful evening.

Day 6: Transfer to Kibale national park – Ishasha game drive
After breakfast, transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park. It’s a 5-6 hours’ drive with en-route lunch and stop in Ishasha sector for chances of spotting the tree climbing lions. Thereafter, embark on your journey to Kibale national park via Fort portal town for lunch break. Thereafter, proceed to Kibale national park with en-route crater lake tours. Proceed to your booked lodge for check-in, dinner and overnight stay at Chimpanzee Guesthouse for mid-range/Isunga lodge for budget
Day 7: Chimpanzee Trekking – transfer to Entebbe
Wake up early and drive to Kibale Forest to the briefing point before you head in the forest in search of the exuberant chimpanzees groups in the Kibale forest. Tracking chimpanzees in their natural habitat as they swing from the branches in the canopy high above the forest floor, is a thrilling experience. Though they can be difficult to spot, you will be in no doubt of their presence as the forest is alive with their noisy calls. Spend an hour in their presence. After trekking, go for a swamp walk in Bigodi swamp – one of the richest swamps with birds and primates like Baboons, red tailed monkey, Black and white monkey among others.
After trekking, transfer to Entebbe. It’s about 6-7 hours’ drive and upon arrival, check-in at booked lodge for dinner and overnight stay at Papyrus Guesthouse for budget/Best Western garden Hotel for mid-range
Day 8: Fly to Nairobi (Own Booked flight) – transfer to Lake Nakuru national park – evening game drive
After breakfast and depending on your flight arrival in the morning, check-in and fly to Jomo Kenyatta international airport. Upon arrival, meet your driver and transfer to Lake Nakuru national park. Lake Nakuru national park is best known for its large masses of flamingo birds and black and white rhinos. It’s a 5 hours’ drive.
Upon arrival after your lunch, connect for an evening game drive to find some of the animals that will be available including rhinos, giraffes, elephants, lions, leopards, etc. Later evening, connect to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay at Pundo Milias Lodge for budget/ Lake Nakuru Safari Lodge for mid-range
Day 9: Morning game drive – transfer to Masai Mara national reserve
After breakfast, enjoy an early morning game drive to find some animals before you embark on your safari to Masai Mara national reserve, which is along the floor of the magnificent rift valley for unlimited game drive and land of the Masai people. Arrive at good time for lunch at the lodge after check-in. Later afternoon, connect for an evening game drive. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay at Julia’s River Camp for budget/Zebar Plains Lodge for mid-range
Day 10: Full day in Masai Mara
After breakfast, connect for a full day in the park with packed lunch in search of its popular residents. The Masai Mara plains are full of wildebeest during migration season early July to end September however, they are not guaranteed to view, zebra, impala, topi, giraffe, Thomson’s gazelle are regularly seen, the leopards, lions, hyenas, cheetah, jackal and bat-eared foxes can also be seen. Black rhino is a little shy and hard to spot but are often seen at a distance if you are lucky. Hippos are abundant in the Mara River as are very large Nile crocodiles, which lay in wait for a meal as the wildebeest cross on their annual quest to find new pastures. Optional activity; Hot air balloon – Wake early and be picked up by the air balloon team for your hot air balloon safari which starts in the early morning, just in time for sunrise. For about one hour you will be floating peacefully above the ground, with a bird’s eye view of the African bush below. The capacity for this activity is limited making this a very special and exclusive experience. Breakfast will be provided and thereafter connect back to the lodge.
Day 11: Another day in Masai Mara in the North eastern end of the reserve
After breakfast, meet your guide and transfer to the north-eastern end of the park to widen your chances of seeing more animals and the Wildebeest migration on the Mara River depending on month you have travelled in. The wildebeest migration is however, not guaranteed to spot the crossing. You will drive to Mara River to witness the great migration which happens mostly around June to July and October to November viewing the survivors of the fittest as they go past the big Nile crocodiles in the water, large pride of hunting lions in the land as they exit or enter to the river. You will enjoy the whole day in the park and later late evening return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay as above
Day 12: Transfer to Serengeti national park via Isebenia border
You will have a very early breakfast and checkout from the lodge to embark on your journey to Serengeti national park in Tanzania. You will have a game drive on your way to Isebania border where you will be crossing from. This day will take you to other side of Masai Mara as you exit the park via Olololo gate in Mara west.
Upon arrival at the border the customs office will do clearance after which proceed to Serengeti where you will enter the park with the game drive lasting up to 2 hours as you enjoy the plains of Serengeti. The Serengeti allows you see the big five game in plenty. Dinner and overnight at your booked accommodation at Serengeti Tanzania Bush Camp for budget/Tukaone Serengeti Camp for budget
Day 13: Full day in Serengeti national park
After your delicious breakfast, meet your driver and embark on a drive to Serengeti national park with your panic lunch. The central sector is known for its masculine lions and you will also encounter a great number of other wildlife. Later afternoon, you will drive to Central Serengeti for game drive. In this area of the park, you will have opportunity to see big prides of lions, Cheetahs, Leopards, Hyenas, Giraffes, Elephants, different Antelopes and other wildlife. Later in the evening, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight at either lodge as above
Day 14: Morning game drive – Serengeti and transfer to Ngorongoro conservation area
After breakfast, you will drive to Central Serengeti for game drive for yet another game drive. This area has a lot of animals to explore at your disposal with your picnic lunch. In this area of the park, you will have opportunity to see big prides of lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, giraffes, elephants, different antelopes and other wildlife.
After your picnic lunch, transfer to Ngorongoro conservation area with en-route visit of the Olduvai Gorge. It’s about 4-5 hours’ drive, check-in at your booked lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay at Hhando Coffee Lodge for budget/Karatu Tented Lodge for mid-range
Day 15: Half day in the crater – transfer to Arusha – Departure
Wake up early, have breakfast and connect to Ngorongoro crater with your picnic lunch for a game drive. The crater has a good number of Lions and Cheetahs, and it is another good place to see the rare black Rhino.
After your lunch, transfer to Arusha. It’s a 3-4 hours’ drive arriving in Arusha in the afternoon. The driver will drop you off at a location you advise or at the airport fir your onward flight back.
