2 Days Dian Fossey Hike Tour is a short adventure that will take you to Volcanoes national park where you will be able to visit Dian Fossey’s tomb. Dian Fossey was a primatologist who dedicated her entire life on research and conservation of the endangered mountain gorillas. During the safari you will hike to Karisoke research center where you will see Dian Fosseys grave, have great views of animals, primates, bird species among others.

Detailed itinerary
Day 1: arrival and transfer to Volcanoes national park, upon arrival at Kigali international airport on the first day of the 2 days Dian Fossey hike tour, you will be welcomed by our driver guide who will brief you about the safari and then transfer to Kigali for a city tour. During the city tour you will be able to visit the Kigali genocide memorial center, Kimironko market, craft centers where you will be able to buy souvenirs among others. After the city tour you will go for lunch I one of the restaurants where after you will start the journey to Volcanoes national park in northwestern part of Rwanda. The journey takes about 2 to 3 hours drive and on the way you will have stunning views of the rolling hills, terraced farmlands, local people, traditional homesteads among others. Upon arrival you will continue to check into the lodge and if there is time you can drive to the twin lakes of Lake Burera and Ruhondo where you will have spectacular views of the sundowner, hills, terraced farmlands, fishermen fishing, views of different bird species among others. After the Twin lakes tour, you will drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Dian Fossey hike and departure to Kigali
Dian Fossey hike, after an early breakfast on the last day of the 2 days Dian Fossey hike tour you will wear suitable hiking gears, carry your lunch box and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about Dian Fossey hike. After the briefing you will drive to the trail head where you will walk for about 10 minutes to the park border. From the park border you will start hiking to Karisoke research center which is situated between mount Visoke and mount Karisimbi. During hiking you will pass through lush forest where you will have spectacular views of animals like forest elephants, giant forest hogs, primates, different bird species among others. Upon arrival at the research center you will be able to view Dian Fossey’s grave who was murdered in 1985 and buried next to her favorite gorilla friend digit and other 20 mountain gorillas some of which were killed by poachers, learn about her work and the legacy she left behind which still exists to date. After the Dian Fossey experience, you will enjoy your picnic lunch and then start descending down to the starting point where you will meet up with your driver guide and transfer back to the lodge to freshen up and relax.
After relaxation you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kigali international airport for your departure flight or transfer to the hotel in Kigali.
