Detailed Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to volcanoes national park

Transfer to volcanoes national park: On the very 1st day of 6 Days Rwanda Gorilla Trekking & Dian Fossey Safari, you will be picked from a hotel in Kigali where you spent overnight and be briefed by our company representative as you head for Kigali city tour exploring Gisozi genocide memorial sites, kimironko market for some crafts and many other attractions. After the Kigali city tour, your safari driver will take you to a hotel for lunch then start the drive to Volcanoes national park in Ruhengeri with a stopover at Kiningi park headquarters to obtain your gorilla trekking permit then be transferred to your lodge where you are expected to arrive in the evening, check-in for dinner and overnight rest.

Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking and Visit Ibyiwacu 

Mountain gorilla trekking in volcanoes national park: Enjoy an early breakfast at your lodge on day 2 of 6 Days Rwanda Gorilla Trekking & Dian Fossey Safari, pack all the requirements for an adventurous mountain gorilla trek then be driven to Kiningi where the park headquarters for volcanoes national park are situated. While at the park headquarters, you will be briefed about gorilla trekking, dos and don’ts and finally start the walk into the forest searching for the gorilla family that has been habituated and used to humans for trekking purposes. The trek takes about 30minutes to about 7 hours depending on the movement of gorillas and the trekking speed of the slowest person in the group. Once you allocated the gorillas, you have only one hour which is the maximum time allowed for you to spend in vicinity of endangered mountain gorillas. Trek out of the forest to meet your safari driver and be returned to our lodge for lunch if you never carried a packed lunch.

Cultural tour to Ibyiwacu: After enjoying your lunch, you will have a relaxed afternoon then embark on an evening cultural tour to the Ibyiwacu cultural villages that offers the best cultural experience about the Rwandan culture. You will be entertained with thrilling dance and drama, learn more the life style of the local communities and many more. Later on, be returned to your lodge for dinner and have an overnight sleep.

Day 3: Hike Dian fossey Tomb and transfer to Gisenyi

Hike Dian Fossey Tomb: After breakfast on day 3 of 6 days Rwanda vacation safari, you will head out for a briefing about dian fossey hike then start the adventure of ascending to Karisoke research center where the American primatologist was murdered at her research center and buried next to her best friend decimal the silverback that was also killed by poachers. After spending some time at Dian Fossey tomb, you will descend back and head to your lodge for lunch.

Transfer to Gisenyi: After lunch, you will check out of the lodge and be transferred to Gisenyi where you will visit some of the genocide memorial sites in Gisenyi, visit king’s palace and finally head to Lake Kivu for a relaxed evening along the shores of the lake.

Day 4: Boat cruise and transfer to Nyungwe forest national park 

Boat cruise on Lake Kivu and transfer to Nyungwe: Enjoy a relaxed breakfast at the shores of Lake Kivu on day 4 of 6 days Rwanda vacation safari then enjoy a boat ride exploring some of the islands along the lake and viewing. After spending a half day on Lake Kivu, you will return to your lodge for lunch then check out and be driven to Nyungwe forest national park where you will spend your overnight.

Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk in Nyungwe forest national park

Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe forest national park: An early breakfast will be served on day 5 of 6 days Rwanda vacation safari then meet your safari driver to be transferred to the park headquarters for a briefing before starting the real art of trekking chimpanzees in the forest. There are other wildlife to look out for during chimpanzee trekking including other primates, mammals, birds and the entire thrilling vegetation cover of the park. After finding the chimpanzees, you will spend only one hour with them in their natural habitat then exit the forest and be driven to the lodge for lunch.

Canopy walk in Nyungwe forest national park: After lunch, you will embark on a canopy walk along a 50 meters high elevation stretching to about 160meters long. This canopy walk is considered the best in East Africa and it offers stunning view of Nyungwe forest national park at a glance and different species of fauna and flora. After the 2 hours canopy walk, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight sleep.

Day 6: Return to Kigali for city tour and departures
