Day 1 of the 6 days Uganda Rwanda gorilla trekking safari

Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes national park, depending on the time of arrival on the first day of your 6 days Uganda Rwanda gorilla trekking safari you will be welcomed by our driver guide at Kigali international airport and then start the journey to Volcanoes national park in the north western part of Rwanda. On your way you will have great views of the traditional homesteads, rolling hills, beautiful landscapes and upon arrival you will check into the lodge, have dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park

Gorilla trekking, on the second day of the 6 days Uganda Rwanda gorilla trekking safari you will have an early breakfast, carry packed lunch and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking. After the briefing you will be grouped into 8 people where each group is allocated a gorilla family to trek and a park guide who will be showing you different trails to follow as well as sharing information about the mountain gorillas. Gorilla trekking in volcanoes national park takes about 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on their location because they like to move from one place to another in search of food.

During trekking you will have views of various bird species, primates like black and white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, plant species among others and when the gorillas are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat which gives you an opportunity to watch them communicate with each other, play, carry out their daily activities, watch mothers breastfeed, learn about their behaviors, habits, take photos and record videos. After spending one hour with the gentle giants you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and cultural tour

Golden monkey trekking, after an early breakfast on the third day of the 6 days Uganda Rwanda gorilla trekking safari your driver guide will pick you up to transfer to Kinigi park headquarters for a briefing about golden monkey trekking rules and regulations. After the briefing you will be allocated a park guide who is well conversant with trails in the forest and then start trekking which takes 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on where they are located. Golden monkeys in Volcanoes national park live at the bottom of the Volcano Mountains in the bamboo forest and they can be located through following clues of fresh leftovers from bamboo shoots and leaves. When the golden monkeys are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural environment where you will watch them feeding on bamboo shoots, jumping up in trees, learn more about their lifestyle and take photos. After the one hour with the golden monkeys you will trek back to meet up with your driver guide and transfer to the lodge for lunch.

Cultural tour, after lunch you will go for a cultural tour to Ibyi’wacu cultural village which is located around Volcanoes national park in Nyabigoma, Musanze. During the cultural tour you will interact with the local people which gives you an opportunity to learn about their lifestyle, their way of living, enjoy different traditional dances, songs, listen to interesting stories, visit local schools to experience education life in Rwanda, taste different local dishes among others. After the cultural tour you will transfer back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park

On the fourth day of the 6 days Uganda Rwanda gorilla trekking safari you will have a relaxed breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to start the journey to Bwindi impenetrable national park in southwestern Uganda. You will have en-route lunch and great views of the rolling hills in Rwanda, Kigezi hills, terraced farmlands, landscapes among others. on your way you will either pass via Cyanika border in Kisoro or Katuna border in Kabale district and upon arrival you will continue to check into the lodge, have dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park

Gorilla trekking, after an early breakfast on the fifth day of the 6 days Uganda Rwanda gorilla trekking safari you will carry packed lunch and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about the gorilla trekking rules and regulations. After the briefing you will be grouped into 8 people, allocated a gorilla family to trek and park guide who is well conversant with trails in the jungle. Grouping of individuals is done according to various factors like age, physical fitness and personal preferences therefore in case you are not physically fit you are advised to communicate with your driver guide so that you are allocated a gorilla family that is near to trek because trekking is done in steep and slippery terrains.

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park starts at around 8:00am and takes 30 minutes to 7 hours depending on the location of the gorillas and during trekking you will have spectacular views of the forest birds, animals like forest elephants, bush pigs, warthogs, primates like l’hoest monkeys, ververt monkeys among others. When the gorillas are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat and during the one hour you will learn about their lifestyle, behaviors, watch them carry out their daily activities, take photos and record the moments to show people back home after the safari. After the face to face encounter with the gentle giants you will trek back to the park headquarters, meet up with your driver guide and transfer to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Departure to Kigali

On the last day of the 6 days Uganda Rwanda gorilla trekking safari you will have a relaxed breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet your driver guide to transfer to Kigali for a city tour. During the city tour you will visit Kigali genocide memorial centre where you will know about the brutal killing of people during the 1994 Rwanda genocide between the Hutus and Tutsi. After the city tour you will have lunch and then transfer to Kigali international airport for your departure flight.
