On this evening, you may have an optional Batwa trail to learn more about the life of the Batwa people, who were the ancient forest dwellers that managed to stay with the mountain gorillas in the wild. During the briefing, you will be able to ask any possible questions concerning gorillas and you will probably receive the best response. After the briefing, you will be assigned to a specific group of up to 8 trekkers, including tour guides and armed rangers, and then you will begin the trail in the forest to search for the habituated mountain gorillas in the wild. During the trek, be sure to listen carefully to your guide and ranger for safety purposes while amidst the wildlife. Once you encounter the gorillas, you will be allowed one hour of interaction as you enjoy taking photographs of the primates as long as you don’t use the flashlight. After the trek, you will return to the lodge for evening relaxation or else you may opt for an evening community visit to meet with the local Bakiga and Batwa for some entertainment. Then return to the lodge for dinner and have an overnight sleep.
