Day 1 of the 4 days Bwindi gorillas and Lake Bunyonyi safari from Kigali
Arrival and transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park, upon arrival at Kigali international airport on the first day of the 4 days Bwindi gorillas and Lake Bunyonyi safari from Kigali you will be welcomed by our driver guide who will brief you about the safari and then start the journey to Bwindi impenetrable national park. The journey takes about 3 to 4 hours drive passing via Cyanika border in Kisoro or Katuna border in Kabale district and on your way you will have en-route lunch and great views of the rolling hills in Rwanda, terraced farmlands, Kigezi hills, homesteads, smiling people, beautiful landscapes among others. Upon arrival in the park you will check into the lodge, have dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park
Gorilla trekking, after an early breakfast on the second day of the 4 days Bwindi gorillas and Lake Bunyonyi safari from Kigali you will carry packed lunch and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about the rules, regulations and expectations of gorilla trekking. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park is an interesting activity where visitors are grouped into 8 individuals, allocated a gorilla family to trek daily and a park guide who will be sharing information about the mountain gorillas as well as conversant with trails in the jungle. Trekking of the mountain gorillas is strenuous and takes about 30 minutes to 7 hours depending on where the gorillas are located therefore in case you are not physically fit you are advised to communicate with your driver guide so that they allocate you a gorilla family that is near to trek.
During trekking you will have views of colorful bird species, animals like buffaloes, elephants, antelopes, primates like chimpanzees, l’hoest monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, plant species among others. When the gorillas are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural environment which gives you an opportunity to watch them carry out their daily activities like feeding, breast feeding, playing, learn more about their behaviors, habits, ask questions, take photos and record the moments to show people back home after the safari. After spending one hour with the endangered mountain gorillas, you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will be awarded a certificate for participating in gorilla trekking and meet up with your driver guide to transfer back to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
After breakfast on the third day of the 4 days Bwindi gorillas and Lake Bunyonyi safari from Kigali you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale. The journey takes about 3 to 4 hours’ drive and upon arrival you will go for an exciting boat cruise which is done in a dugout canoe. During the boat cruise you will be able to take beautiful photos, explore some of the 29 Islands on Lake Bunyonyi such as the punishment island where they used to take girls who got pregnant before marriage and leave them there to die as a punishment. You will also have views of the traditional homesteads, terraced farmlands, local people who live on the islands, some animal species, birds like herons, egrets, pied crow, grey crowned crane, beautiful landscape among others. After the boat ride you will drive to the lodge for lunch.
Community tour, after lunch you will go for an evening community tour in the neighboring communities where you will interact with the local people such as the Batwa or pygmies and the Bakiga. During the community tour you will have an opportunity to visit their homesteads, farmlands, market centers, learn more about their ways of life, culture and traditions, enjoy entertainments through traditional songs, dance and drama, taste their local food among others. After the community tour, you will drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Departure to Kigali
On the last day of the 4 days Bwindi gorillas and Lake Bunyonyi safari from Kigali you will have a relaxed breakfast, check out of the lodge and your driver guide will pick you up to transfer to Kigali. You will pass via Katuna border in Kabale and upon arrival you will go for a city tour where you will visit Kigali genocide memorial center and then have lunch in one of the restaurants. After lunch you will continue with the journey and your driver guide will drop you off at Kigali international airport for your next flight or drop off at any place of convenience.
