This 4 days gorilla trekking and Mount Sabinyo hiking safari will take you to Mgahinga gorilla national park which is the smallest protected area situated in southwestern Uganda. During the safari you will engage in gorilla trekking which is one of the major activities in the park that gives you an opportunity to spend one hour with the endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. You will also hike Mount Sabinyo which is 3645meters above the sea level and one of the volcanic mountains in Mgahinga gorilla national park.

Detailed itinerary
Day 1 of the 4 days gorilla trekking and Mount Sabinyo hiking safari
Arrival and transfer to Mgahinga gorilla national park, depending on the arrival time on the first day of the 4 days gorilla trekking and Mount Sabinyo hiking safari you will be welcomed by our driver guide who will brief you about the safari and then start the journey to Mgahinga gorilla national park. It’s a whole day journey and on your way you will have a stopover at Igongo Cultural Center in Mbarara for lunch. After lunch you will continue the journey which is filled with great views of the beautiful landscape, scenery, terraced farmlands, Kigezi hills, local people among others. Upon arrival in the park you will check into the lodge, have dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga gorilla national park
Gorilla trekking, after an early breakfast on the second day of the 4 days gorilla trekking and Mount Sabinyo hiking safari you will carry packed lunch and your driver guide will pick you up to transfer to Ntebeko park headquarters for a briefing about the rules, regulations and expectations of gorilla trekking. After the briefing you will be allocated a park guide who is well conversant with trails in the jungle and then start trekking which takes about 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on where the gorillas are located. During trekking you will be able to view different bird species like black kite, white necked raven, pin tailed whydah, paradise flycatcher, handsome francolin, Rwenzori turaco, crowned hornbill, plants, mammals among others.
Once the gorillas are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them which helps you to learn about their behaviors, habits, watch them carry out their daily activities like feeding, take photos and record the moments to show people back home. After the one hour encounter with the mountain gorillas you will trek back to the starting point where the park guide will award you a certificate for participating in gorilla trekking, meet your driver guide and transfer to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Hiking Mount Sabinyo
Hiking Mount Sabinyo, after breakfast on the third day of the 4 days gorilla trekking and Mount Sabinyo hiking safari you will carry packed lunch and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the starting point for a briefing about the safety and guidelines to follow while hiking. hiking Mount Sabinyo takes about 8 hours round trek depending on the speed that is four hours to the summit and 4 hours to descend back during hiking you will pass through vegetation ranges from bamboo zone, sub-alpine zone, sharp ridges and have views of the golden monkeys, mammals like forest elephants, buffaloes, bird species like archers robin chat, blue headed coucal, white necked raven olive woodpecker, dusky crimsonwing, crater lakes among others. When you reach on top you will you will have great views of the park, beautiful landscape, scenery and you will be standing in three countries that is Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo. you will then start descending back to the starting point which takes about 4 hours. Upon arrival you will meet up with your driver guide and transfer back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Departure to Kampala
After a relaxed breakfast on the last day of the 4 days gorilla trekking and Mount Sabinyo hiking safari you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kampala. On your way you will have a stopover in Mbarara for lunch and another stopover at the Equator in Kayabwe where you will buy souvenirs and take pictures. From the Equator you will continue the journey and reach Kampala early evening and upon arrival your driver guide will either drop you off at Entebbe international airport or drop you off at any place of convenience.
