The safari will take you to Mgahinga gorilla national park which is the smallest national park in Uganda harboring the endangered mountain gorillas, golden monkeys, three volcanic mountains among others. During the safari therefore you will engage in breathtaking activities like gorilla trekking, golden monkey trekking and Batwa trail experience which gives you an opportunity to know more about the Batwa people.

Detailed itinerary
Day 1 of the 4 days Mgahinga gorillas and golden monkey trekking
Arrival and transfer to Mgahinga gorilla national park, upon arrival at Kigali international airport on the first day of the 4 days Mgahinga gorillas and golden monkey trekking you will be welcomed by our driver guide who will brief you about the safari and then start the journey to Mgahinga gorilla national park. On your way you will have en-route lunch and great views of the rolling hills in Rwanda, beautiful scenery, Kigezi hills, traditional homesteads among others. You will pass via Cyanika border in Kisoro district and upon arrival you will check into the lodge, have dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga gorilla national park
Gorilla trekking, after an early breakfast on the second day of the 4 days Mgahinga gorillas and golden monkey trekking you will carry packed lunch and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking. After the briefing you will start trekking in the jungle with a park guide who is well conversant with gorilla trails. Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga gorilla national park takes about 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on where the gorilla family is located and during trekking you will have spectacular views of colorful bird species, primates, plant species among others. Once the mountain gorillas are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat and during this time you will be able to learn more about their lifestyle, behaviors, take photos, record the moments among others. After the one hour with the mountain gorillas you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will be awarded a certificate for participating in gorilla trekking, meet up with your driver guide and transfer to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and Batwa trail experience
Golden monkey trekking, on the third day of the 4 days Mgahinga gorillas and golden monkey trekking you will meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Ntebeko park headquarters for a briefing about the rules, regulations and expectations of golden monkey trekking. Golden monkey trekking starts at around 8:00am and takes about 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on where the golden monkeys are located because they like to move from one area to another in search of food. During golden monkey trekking you will have great views of other wildlife species including plants, primates, bird species among others as you follow trails of leftover bamboo shoot and leaves. Once the golden monkeys are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat which gives you an opportunity to watch them jump up in trees, learn about their habits, behaviors, take photos and record the video. After the one hour with the golden monkeys you will trek back to the park headquarters, meet your driver guide to transfer back to the lodge for lunch.
Batwa trail experience, after lunch you will go for Batwa trail experience in the Mgahinga forest. The Batwa used to live in the forest many years ago before it was gazette as a national park and during the Batwa trail experience you will be led by the Batwa themselves. The Batwa trail walk begins with a prayer by Batwa guides who will be begging the spirits to keep everyone safe during the forest walk. during the Batwa trail experience you will be able to learn about different plant species that were used to cure different diseases like fever, diabetes among others, learn how they used to make cups from bamboo, listen to their ancient stories, visit Garama caves which used to be the Kings Palace, food store and hiding area by the Batwa from bantu people. You will also be entertained by Batwa men and women through traditional dance, music and drama. After the Batwa trail experience you will meet up with your guide and drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Departure to Kigali
On the last day of the 4 days Mgahinga gorillas and golden monkey trekking you will have a relaxed breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kigali. The journey takes about 4 hours drive passing via Cyanika border and upon arrival in Kigali you will have lunch and then drive to Kigali international airport where your driver guide will drop you off for your next flight.
