The safari will take you to Lake Mburo national park which is the smallest national park in Uganda where you will have stunning views of animals like buffaloes, elands, impalas, giraffes, zebras, warthogs, hippos among others during the game drive and boat cruise. From Lake Mburo national park you will connect to Bwindi impenetrable national park in southwestern Uganda where you will participate in a breathtaking gorilla trekking activity which gives you an opportunity to have a face to face encounter with the endangered mountain gorillas in their environment. You will wrap up your safari with a tour at Lake Bunyonyi which is the deepest lake in Uganda.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Lake Mburo national park, depending on your location on the first day of the 5 days Lake Mburo wildlife, Bwindi gorillas and Lake Bunyonyi safari, you will be welcomed by our driver guide who will brief you about the safari and then start the journey to Lake Mburo national park in western Uganda. The journey takes about 4 to 5 hours dive and on the way you will have a stopover at the Equator in Kayabwe where you will buy souvenirs, take photos and then proceed the journey to the park. Upon arrival you will check into the lodge and have lunch, after lunch you will drive to the landing site for an exciting boat cruise where you will be able to view hippos in water, crocodiles basking on the banks, buffaloes, warthogs, antelopes drinking water along the shores and water birds like the rare shoebill stork, kingfishers, bee-eaters, fish eagles, cormorants, hornbills among others. After the boat ride which lasts for about 2 hours you will drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Morning game drive and transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park

Morning game drive, after an early breakfast on the second day of the 5 Days Lake Mburo Wildlife & Bwindi Gorilla Trekking safari you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to go for a morning game drive in the park. During the game drive you will get a chance of viewing animals like buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, waterbucks, elands, impalas, giant forest hogs, Oribi, Topi Uganda kobs among others grazing in the open savannah plains with due, view some bird species, blue monkeys among others. After the game drive you will drive out of the park and start the journey to Bwindi impenetrable national park with en-route lunch in Mbarara town. After lunch you will continue the journey with great views of Kigezi hills, highlands, terraces farmlands, homesteads, local people among others and upon arrival in Bwindi impenetrable national park you will continue to check into the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park

Gorilla trekking, after an early breakfast on the third day of the 5 days Lake Mburo wildlife, Bwindi gorillas and Lake Bunyonyi safari you will carry your lunch box and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park is done in groups of 8 people and grouping is determined by age, physical fitness and personal preference because trekking is strenuous. After the briefing therefore you will be allocated a gorilla family to trek and a park guide who is well conversant with trails in the forest. Trekking of the mountain gorillas takes about 30 minutes to 8 hours depending on the location of gorillas and during trekking you will be able to see some bird species, mammals, other primates, different plant species among others. Once the mountain gorillas are found you will be able to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat where you will be able to learn about their behaviors, habits, watch them feed, play, breastfeed, rest, take photos and record videos with a flash less camera. After the breathtaking moment with the mountain gorillas you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will you will be awarded a certificate for participating in gorilla trekking and after meet up with your driver guide to return to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for canoeing and community tour

On the fourth day of the 5 Days Lake Mburo Wildlife & Bwindi Gorilla Trekking safari, you will have a relaxed breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Lake Bunyonyi which is the deepest fresh water lake in Uganda and the second deepest lake in African after Lake Tanganyika in Tanzania. Lake Bunyonyi is locally translated as a place of little birds because it harbors a range of bird species and 29 islands. it’s a 3 hour drive to the lake and upon arrival you will go for canoeing on the Lake where you will be able to explore some of the 29 islands, view different bird species like slender billed baglafetch, African kingfisher, African harrier hawk, hadada ibis, black heron, pin tailed whyder, golden backed weaver, grey shrike, cardinal woodpecker, levillant cuckoo, grey crowned crane, have spectacular views of the terraced farmlands, traditional homesteads, hills, animals along the shores among others. After the interesting canoe ride you will drive to the lodge for lunch.

Community tour, after lunch you will go for community tour where you will be able to interact with the Batwa and Bakiga people who live in the neighboring communities around the lake. During the community tour you will have an opportunity of learning about their culture, tradition, way of living, history, visit their farmlands, homesteads, local markets, listen to their ancient stories, taste their traditional dishes, learn how to make local beer from bananas, take part in their traditional songs, dance and drama. After the community tour you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight. 

Day 5: Departure to Kampala

After a relaxed breakfast on the fifth day of the 5 days Lake Mburo wildlife, Bwindi gorillas and Lake Bunyonyi safari, you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kampala. You will have en-route lunch in Mbarara town and proceed the journey to Kampala where you will reach early evening.  Upon arrival you will be dropped off at Entebbe international airport for your departure flight or drop off at any place of convenience.
