5 Days Murchison falls Wildlife Safari is a breathtaking adventure that will allow you to explore Murchison falls national park which is the oldest and largest national park located in northwestern Uganda. During the safari you will be able to view different wildlife species including the big five mammals(elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, lions and elephants), hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, warthogs, waterbucks, primates like chimpanzees, red tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, view different bird species among others which will be seen during the game drive, boat cruise and chimpanzee trekking.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Murchison falls national park

Pick up and transfer to Murchison falls national park, depending on your location on the first day of the 5 days Murchison falls safari our driver guide will pick you up, brief you about the safari and then start the journey to Murchison falls national park in north western Uganda. The journey takes about 4 to 5 hours drive and on the way you will views of traditional homesteads, local people, roadside markets and a stopover at Ziwa Rhino sanctuary for rhino tracking. Tracking of rhinos starts with a briefing from the ranger guide and then drive closer to their location before you start trekking in search of rhinos and once they are found you will stay in their presence for about one hour which gives you an opportunity to learn more about their behaviors, view other animals like Uganda kobs, waterbucks, bushbucks, duikers, leopards among others. After rhino trekking you will drive to Masindi for lunch and thereafter proceed the journey to the park. Upon arrival you will drive directly to the top of the falls where you will have breathtaking views of the Nile, views of animals, beautiful scenery among others and then transfer to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Morning game drive and boat cruise to the bottom of the falls

Morning game drive, after an early breakfast on the second day of the 5 days Murchison falls safari your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge to go for a game drive where you will be able to view animals when they are most active. During the game drive you will follow different game drives which provide great views of animals like elephants, buffaloes, Jacksons hartebeest, warthogs, bushbucks, waterbucks, giraffes among others grazing in the open plains, view predators like lions, leopards, hyenas if you are lunch, bird species like grey crowned crane, silver bird, martial eagle, yellow billed stork, black headed lapwing, Abyssinian ground hornbill among others. After the game drive you will drive back to the lodge for lunch.

Boat cruise to the bottom of the falls, after lunch you will drive to Paraa jetty landing site for an amazing boat cruise to the bottom of the falls. The boat ride takes about 2 to 3 hours and offers you with spectacular views of animals like elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, warthogs among others drinking water along the shores, view hippos in water, crocodiles basking along the shores, view aquatic birds such as long toed plover, grey headed kingfisher, pied and malachite kingfisher, African jacana, red throated bee-eater, giant heron, swamp flycatcher among others. The boat will continue to the bottom of the falls where you will engage in an optional hike to the top of the falls. Hiking to the top of the falls is an incredible experience but strenuous and during trekking you will see how the water squeezes itself from the narrow gorge to plunge down into a waterfall, enjoy water plashes, beautiful scenery among others. When you reach on top you will meet up with your driver guide to drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Nile delta boat cruise and afternoon game drive

Nile delta boat cruise, after breakfast on the third day of the 5 days Murchison falls safari you will drive to Paraa jetty landing site to go for delta boat cruise where you will cruise downstream to the Victoria Nile delta stretching to the shores of Lake Albert. During the Nile delta boat cruise you will have great views of water birds such as the elusive shoebill stork, goliath heron, African jacana, African skimmer, pied kingfisher among others, view people fetching water from the Nile, fishermen fishing on Lake Albert among others. After the Nile delta boat cruise you will return to the lodge for lunch.

Afternoon game drive, after lunch you will go for an afternoon game drive where you will have views of animals going their resting places, view the beautiful sunset, take photos and thereafter drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking in Budondo forest

Chimpanzee trekking, after an early breakfast on the fourth day of the 5 days Murchison falls safari you will carry packed lunch and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the ferry crossing point to cross to Budongo forest which is located in the southern part of the park. Upon arrival you will go for a briefing about the rules and regulations of chimpanzee trekking. After the briefing you will be allocated a habituated chimpanzee family to trek and a park guide who is well conversant with trails in the forest. Chimpanzee trekking in Budongo forest takes about 3o minutes to 4 hours depending on where they are located because they like to move from one place to another in search of food. During trekking you will be able to spot other wildlife species such as birds, different plant and tree species, mammals, other primates like red tailed monkeys, blue monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, olive baboons among others. Once the chimpanzees are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat hence giving you an opportunity to learn about their behaviors, watch them breastfeeding, feeding, playing, resting, take photos and record the moments. After the one hour with the chimpanzees, you will trek back to the park headquarters, meet up with your driver guide to transfer back to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 5:  Morning game drive and departure to Kampala

Game drive, on the last day of the 5 days Murchison falls safari you will have breakfast, check out of the park and meet up with your driver-guide to go for another game drive in the park where you will look for animals that you might have missed during the first game drive. After the morning game drive you will drive out of the park and start the journey to Kampala with en-route lunch. You will arrive in Kampala early evening and your driver guide will drop you off at Entebbe airport for your departure flight or drop off at any place of convenience.
